Evolution of hate crimes in Spain
The Ministry of the Interior has just published the "Report on the evolution of hate crime in Spain 2021', drawn up by the National Office for Combating Hate Crimes (ONDO) on the basis of the data provided to Statistical Crime System (SEC) by the National Police, the Civil Guard, Ertzaintza, Mossos d’Esquadra, the Navarra Provincial Police and the local police who provide data to the system

RACISM AND XENOPHOBIA
Of the 1,724 hate crimes known to the State Security Forces and Bodies in 2021, 639 of them had a racist or xenophobic motive, a category that grows 24.08 percent compared to those computed in 2019.
Next are crimes related to the sexual orientation or gender identity of the victim, 466 cases, with an increase of 67.63 percent compared to the figures for 2019. And in third place are crimes related to the ideology of the victim, 326, which is a decrease of 45.30 percent compared to 2019.
As regards the criminal typology of these acts of hatred, the most prominent are injuries (382) and threats (381), followed by damages (124) and insults (117). Most of them (732) were committed on public roads, and as a second area of commission appears housing, on 373 occasions.
Regarding 1,133 cases resolved by the Security Forces in 2021, 465 clarified hate crimes had a racist or xenophobic motive, 72.77 percent of those known.
Then there are crimes related to the sexual orientation or gender identity of the victim, of which 314 were clarified, 67.38 percent of those committed. And third are crimes related to the ideology of the victim, which were solved in 169 cases, 51.84 percent of the total.
