The Official State Gazette (BOE) has just published* the Order INT/195/2025 of 27 February extending the validity of foreign identity cards issued to persons affected by the conflict in Ukraine who are beneficiaries of temporary protection (until 4 March 2026), of which we highlight:

On 4 March 2022, the Council adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/382 establishing the existence of a mass influx of displaced persons from Ukraine within the meaning of Article 5 of Council Directive 2001/55/EC of 20 July 2001 and with the effect of initiating temporary protection. In accordance with the Directive, the temporary protection was applied for an initial period of one year, until 4 March 2023, and then automatically extended for another year, until 4 March 2024.

As the grounds for granting temporary protection persisted, it was extended until 4 March 2025. (…)

For the reasons set out above, the validity of cards already issued to beneficiaries of temporary protection to whom Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/1836 of 25 June 2024 applies is directly and automatically extended until 4 March 2026.. Therefore, it will not be necessary to obtain a new Alien Identity Card to comply with the obligations set out in Article 210 of the Regulation of Organic Law 4/2000, on the rights and freedoms of foreigners in Spain and their social integration, after its reform by Organic Law 2/2009, approved by Royal Decree 557/2011, of 20 April.

This decision does not affect the obligation of persons who have renounced temporary protection to surrender their card.
