Agreement Spain – New Zealand Vacation and Sporadic Work Activities Programme
The Official Gazette of the Statedo (BOE) today publishes the Exchange of Notes for which amendment the Agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and New Zealand on the Vacancy and Sporadic Work Activities Programme, done in Madrid on 25 June and 21 October 2024, of which we highlight:

1. Article 2(1) is amended as follows:
“New Zealand, through Immigration of New Zealand (part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Labour), shall, as provided for in Article 3, and on the basis of an application by a citizen of the Kingdom of Spain, issue a temporary multiple-entry visa, valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of issue, to any person who fulfils the following requirements:”
2. Article 3(1) is amended as follows:
“New Zealand shall issue up to 2000 temporary multiple-entry visas per year in accordance with Article 2 to citizens of the Kingdom of Spain.”
3. Article 7(1) is amended as follows:
“The Kingdom of Spain shall issue annually up to 2000 visas in accordance with Article 6 to citizens of New Zealand.”
4. Article 5(2) is amended as follows:
“Citizens of the Kingdom of Spain participating in the Programme shall be allowed to work in gainful employment for the entire duration of their stay in New Zealand (12 months).”
5. Article 9(2) is amended as follows:
“New Zealand nationals participating in the Programme under this Agreement shall receive the relevant administrative authorisation required to work for the entire duration of their stay in the Kingdom of Spain (12 months), irrespective of the situation on the national labour market.”
6. Article 5(3) is amended as follows:
“Citizens of the Kingdom of Spain participating in this Programme may enrol in one or more educational or training courses not exceeding six (6) months in total during their visit to New Zealand.”
7. Article 9(3) is amended as follows:
“New Zealand nationals participating in this Programme may enrol in one or more educational or training courses not exceeding six (6) months in total during their visit to the Kingdom of Spain.”

This Exchange of Letters entered into force on 23 April 2025, date of receipt of the last notification by which the Parties communicated through diplomatic channels the fulfilment of their necessary internal requirements, as set out in its penultimate paragraph.
